QUEENSLANDER Murray Stewart was the star of the first ICF canoe sprint World Cup meet of the year in Portugal, winning two gold and one silver medal.
After combining with Lachlan Tame to win the K2 1000 final on day two, Stewart (pictured) jumped in the boat with fellow London Olympians Jacob Clear and David Smith, and newcomer Jordan Wood, 20, to take gold in the K4 1000 final on day three by more than a second from two Spanish crews.
High performance manager Richard Fox said the result was a confidence-booster ahead of the second World Cup event in Germany this weekend.
"The result was pleasing from many points of view. Good confidence for the crew and evidence of the quality coming through the ranks," Fox said.
Stewart had earlier finished second in the K1 1000 final, suggesting he was well placed to improve on last year's fifth in the event at the world championship.
