Milestone man Travis Varcoe confident of success

DESPITE his team starting heavy underdogs, Magpies midfielder Travis Varcoe will go into tonight's match against ladder leaders Fremantle in Perth - his 150th senior game - expecting nothing less than a win.

That's hardly surprising considering the former Geelong premiership player has finished on the right side of the ledger 122 times in his career, a staggering 82% winning percentage.

That ratio is the highest of anyone who has played 150 games or more, just ahead of former Cats teammate Joel Selwood who has won 153 times in his 196 games (78%).

Recruited by Collingwood at the end of last season in a three-way trade that saw Heritier Lumumba switch from Collingwood to Melbourne and Mitch Clark move from the Demons to Geelong, Varcoe has played every game this season.

After a slow start, he has been a major contributor in recent weeks, providing plenty of run through the middle of the ground.

The 27-year-old (pictured) acknowledged his success certainly gave him confidence before each match.

"You go into every game thinking you're going to win … if you do everything possible that the coaches have put in place for us the result will take care of itself," he said. The biggest challenge for Collingwood will be limiting the dominance of giant Dockers ruckman Aaron Sandilands.

The tallest player in the competition is ranked second for hitouts this season, narrowly behind North Melbourne's Todd Goldstein, and has played a crucial role in giving his side's midfield - including Nathan Fyfe, David Mundy and Lachie Neale - first use of the ball.
