Millionaire could face charges for killing wombats

A MILLIONAIRE is under investigation for killing Australian wildlife after photos emerged that appear to show him smiling near a dead wombat, with a rifle over his shoulder.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting car dealer Tony Azzi is now being investigated by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, after first coming to the attention of New South Wales Police.

Fairfax Media has also published a set of photographs appearing to show Mr Azzi with dead animals.

One features the millionaire standing with a friend over the carcass of a dead wombat.

The photos are thought to have been taken on his property near Yass, about 300km south of Sydney.

Mr Azzi has denied any wrongdoing. He told Fairfax he once had to shoot a wombat after it struck by a car and had no chance of surviving.
