Millions of UK soapie viewers will see Fraser Island
TWO lucky UK soapie fans will win a trip to Australia for a week of whale watching, touring and relaxing on Fraser Island after a visit to the set of Neighbours in Melbourne.
Kingfisher Bay Resort, Channel 5 in the UK and Tourism and Events Queensland have teamed up to offer the month-long Channel 5 viewer competition.
Kingfisher Bay Resort group communications manager Jodi Clark said the competition spots were running at lunchtime and during the two prime time screenings of the popular soap opera to an average audience of more than 1.2 million viewers per screening.
She said the eco resort property had jumped at the chance to showcase Fraser Island on prime-time UK television.
"It's no secret that, as a region, we have been seeing a decline in international visitor numbers for some time," Ms Clark said.
"Currently, UK visitors make up around 16% of the resort's total international visitor numbers and we're currently bucking the regional trend by seeing growth compared to last year - so this is a very important source market for us.
"Essentially what this competition does is pair up two Australian icons - Neighbours and sub-tropical Fraser Island - and places them in front of millions of viewers at a time when temperatures are starting to fall as autumn sets in.
"It's a pretty potent combination and one that we are hoping will help us continue to build brand and destination awareness and also continue to achieve growth in visitor numbers to Fraser Island."
The prize is drawn at the end of the month.
