AUSTRALIANS spent more than $12 billion on their pets last year, splurging on everything from high-end grooming to premium food products and nifty toys.
And if the latest trends in Asia are anything to go by, designer custom-made furniture for our furry friends could soon join that list.
An artisan furniture marker in Japan has released a range of eye-catching miniature pieces for cats based on the company's regular, full-size human range.
The results have sparked something of a frenzy in the feline-obsessed realms of the internet.
Okawa Kagu has so far released two items for cat owners - a pine wood couch and a dark wood cat bed that would look at home in a magazine spread.
The company said the couch was inspired by the "Santa Fe style born on the West Coast of the United States".
And on the bed, it said the original item for human sleepers was designed to "become (part) of the family as we use it".
It comes just weeks after global flatpack furniture giant IKEA released a new line of furniture for pooches and pussy cats.
As well as stand-alone pieces - both stylish and affordable - the Swedish company has made tweaks to existing designs with furry friends in mind.
