Baby among those injured in horror crashes at weekend

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious crash south of Toowoomba that left a man in critical condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash on Toowoomba Karara Rd, south of Leyburn, on Saturday.

Police said a green 2002 Holden Commodore, with registration 591 XJI, was travelling north when it left the road and hit a tree.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was taken to  Princess Alexandra Hospital, and a second man was flown from the scene in a stable condition.

Warwick and District Junior Rugby League organisers scrapped two matches in the grand finals on Saturday as members of the Goondiwindi Blues team were believed to be involved in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Policelink on 131444.

Another man suffered serious head injuries in a two-vehicle crash five kilometres west of Dalby on the Warrego Hwy on Saturday night.

Initial investigations suggested  a dual cab pulled to the side of the road and attempted a u-turn, when a sedan travelling in the same direction hit the front of the vehicle.

The 29-year-old male driver of the sedan was taken to Dalby Hospital with serious head injuries.

The 23-year-old female driver of the dual cab, her 30-year-old male passenger, a five-year-old girl and baby received minor injuries.
