Movie review: Fast and Furious 6

IT seemed like the Fast and Furious franchise had run out of fuel. It was dead in the driveway and ready for the wreckers.

And then came along the reboot of the franchise with Fast 5.

It transformed the series into a heist thriller and with the injection of 'movie Viagra' Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson got things started again.

The result was slick and smart and absurdly brilliant.

Expectations for the next installment were high.

Yes you can expect all the crazy car chases and insane action sequences you would want from such a film plus a side serving of heavy duty punch-ups.

There are plenty of nods and winks to the previous films which is a nice touch for fans.

But like a used car; there is always the faults and this film has plenty.

Firstly at 130mins it is far too long. This sort of popcorn blockbuster action film does not require such a long running time.

Like the heist jobs the boys carry out it should get in, showcase some crazy driving and get out.

No one needs to see the terrible scenes that attempt to pass as emotional character building moments by action stars that have the acting range of a boiled egg.

Seriously Vin Diesel I don't know if you got the memo but when acting your face is required to show a range of emotions. A blank stare will not suffice.

He would not look out of place at an amateur school play.

This time around the film revolves around the revelation that Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is alive and working for master criminal Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) which sees Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his team of road-rage outlaws join forces with their old adversary Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to rescue her and foil Shaw's plans.

It's all a little lacklustre and missing the spark and element of surprise of its processor.

Fast and Furious 6 is a big screen no-brainer action flick that's pretty terrible on face value but will provide a kick for fans.

Not quite in the leagues of 5 but still runs laps around the other sequels.

And the end credits; well let's just say stick around…
