Movie review: Pitch Perfect

THIS latest chick flick,  Pitch Perfect, can be described as the illegitimate love child of Glee and Bring It On.

The movie follows all-girl a cappella group The Bellas, who are out to "pitch-slap" the competition after a sickening failing at last year's finals.

When Beca (Anna Kendrick) arrives at Barden University, she struggles to fit in.

She's an independent, aspiring DJ with no interest in the college life.

But that quickly changes when Chloe (Brittany Snow) catches Beca singing in the shower and begs her to audition for The Bellas.

Despite her reluctance to conform, Beca signs up to the motley crew of college cliches, their only binding similarities is how well they sing together.

Along with Beca's growing circle of friends, she also catches the attention of Jesse (Skylar Astin).

Jesse is a member of The Bellas' rival a cappella group and reigning champ the Treble Makers.

Frustrated with The Bellas' stifling performance, Beca pushes the group out of its comfort zone and into new

mash-ups.

But can they hit the right note to take out the competition?

I was pleasantly surprised with how well these young Hollywood stars could hold a tune and was particularly taken aback by Rebel Wilson's set of impressive vocal cords.

What wasn't astonishing was her comedic performance, which outshone the others on screen.

Having held smaller roles in recent chick comedies, I think Wilson has hit her stride and no doubt we'll be seeing a lot more of her.
