THE mother of a 12-year-old girl allegedly shown two pornographic films by her 50-year-old male neighbour has given evidence in the Bundaberg District Court.

The defendant is accused of showing the explicit material to the girl while they were alone in his bedroom.

The court heard the complainant and her siblings often spent time at the defendant's house, where he lived with his extended family, including four young children.

On the day of the alleged incident the complainant's mother said she sent her son to look for his sister at the defendant's house.

"He (her son) came running over to me and said they were watching R-rated movies," she said.

Giving evidence via electronic link, the complainant's mother said her daughter followed her son back to the house where she immediately questioned her.

"She didn't want to tell me what she was watching but I forced it out of her," she said.

"What were your watching? I was quite stern with her."

She said her daughter then told her she had been watching "sex movies."

When crossed examined by defence lawyer Andrew Hoare, he put it to the complainant's mother that her daughter had reason to be scared of her because she had become physical with the girl in the past.

"Are you aware that (the complainant) made an allegation that you pushed her into a wall and bruised her," he asked.

"I'd say that's untrue," the complainant's mother responded.

But when he asked her if it was possible she had pushed the complainant she conceded that yes, she might have pushed her. I

n summing up Crown prosecutor Katrina Overell said the defence would have the jury believe the complainant had managed to find the USB which contained the films and watched it on her own in the defendant's bedroom.

But she said the defendant had opportunity to show the complainant the film and had "given her his own version of sex education class".
