Mundubbera has the best snags
MUNDUBBERA Butchering Co won both the pork and lamb categories in the Capricorn Sausage King Competition recently and will now go to the Ekka grounds on July 8 for the state finals.
Owner Tim Duggan attributed the idea for his winning lamb sausages to his wife, Robyn.
"It was a Moroccan lamb with almonds and raisins that took out the award," he said.
"It was the wife's idea; she has to get the credit for that one."
Mr Duggan has been entering sausages in the competition for 12 years and said he's seen a great improvement in the quality.
"The competition is getting stronger and it's getting harder to win," he said. "There's a lot more variety and innovation in sausages these days."
The winning pork sausages were 100% pork.
Also won by the Mundubbera butcher were: two gold awards for tomato and onion beef sausage and pumpkin, feta and shallot; and silver for bratwurst.
Capricorn region is one of Queensland's seven regions in the Sausage King Competition so Mundubbera Butchering Co will now compete against the pork and lamb winners from the other six regions for the title of State Sausage King. State winners go on to compete in the national competition.
