Gympie Muster's got the X-factor

"THE Gympie Muster has the X-Factor," Caitlyn Shadbolt declared at the Gympie Show last week.

And her fellow Muster ambassador and country star Adam Brand enthusiastically agreed.

So do the fans, according to Muster festival director Jeff Chandler.

So important has the Muster become to Queensland's tourist industry that visitor spending increases by a whopping 24% during the Muster period in late August each year.

"That includes spending as people drive down from Bundaberg or fly into the Sunshine Coast and stay and eat and drive up for the show," Mr Chandler said.

Adam Brand said the Muster had been a big part of his life and career since he first appeared on the Muster stage in 1998.

"Can I just put it out there?" Caitlyn Shadbolt asked. "I was three at the time."

Now 19, she will be teaming up with her own music idol Adam Brand, who is 45.

"Every singer wants to do the Muster," she said.

"That's right," Adam Brand said.

"We all know each other and we're all friends and we all talk about how much we want to perform at the Muster."

"Don't I know it," Mr Chandler said. "I say to people they were playing the Muster last year and they say, 'Yes but this is this year and we've got a new album out."

"The camping side of it is social, even for people who aren't into country music that much," Caitlyn said.
