Nanango council chambers seriously damaged but open

NANANGO council offices have reopened today after the building was flooded in yesterday's downpour.

At about 4pm yesterday the chambers were evacuated and power to the building cut because one third of the building was inundated with water.

South Burnett Regional Council spokeswoman said the box guttering, which channels water off the roof, could not handle the volume of rain.

The customer service centre, board room and four office spaces were flooded and while preliminary damage assessments have begun, the bill is yet to be determined.

"While these things can't always be forseen, there is already discussion about how this situation can be avoided in the future as part of the repair works," the spokeswoman said.

A temporary customer service centre has been set up in the library and all services are available.
