A SOUTH Burnett filmmaker is one step closer to having his work shown to an audience of more than 100 million.
Animator and director Thomas Price grew up in Nanango before learning the art of digital animation.
His skills soon found him in demand as a digital animator on films including X-Men: Days of Future Past and Gravity.
But Mr Price now wants to do more work behind the lens as a director and the annual Doritos Crash the Super Bowl competition was the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills.
The competition invites filmmakers to submit a Doritos commercial for the chance of a $1 million prize and an airing during the Super Bowl, the most watched television event in the United States.
Mr Price said he was rattling his brain to come up with an idea, until inspiration flew right at him.
"This little orange moth landed on my desk and I instantly thought there's an idea right there," he said.
The commercial has a tour guide showcasing a rare "Dorito Moth" during a safari tour.
Mr Price spent weeks in front of his computer to animate the Dorito Moth before submitting his entry. His video stood out from the more than 4000 entrants and he was recently named one of the 50 semi-finalists.
"It feels good to have something that got in and people seem to enjoy," he said.
The three finalists will be announced early next year, with all three winning a trip to the USA for the final.
"I wouldn't be surprised if this is as far as I go, but I'm stoked either way," Mr Price said.
