Nanango High twins receive some of state's best results

WE ALL want our teenage children to do well in school, but for Sandra DeWeers she could not believe the results her Year 12 twin children received.

At midnight last Saturday, Mrs DeWeers huddled around the computer with her children, Mitch and Gabby in anticipation of their OP results.

The whole family was proud when they discovered Gabby had received an OP3 and Mitch obtain the best possible result with an OP1.

"We were hopeful he would crack a one,” Mrs DeWeers said.

"We are pleased they both got under four.”

Mitch's OP1 result puts him in the top 733 students in the state.

"I think my parents were more happy about it than I was,” he said.

The Nanango State High School dux looks forward to putting his academic expertise into the field of engineering.

"I like solving problems, it's reassuring,” he said.

Mitch's sister Gabby also has a strong vision for her future.

"Hopefully I'll get into James Cook University and study a double degree in medicine and surgery. I just really like helping people,” she said.

"Once I graduate I'd like to come back into a region that needs doctors.”

Nanango principal, Darryl Early was proud of the entire Year 12 student group.

"Our students have performed incredibly well for a small rural school,” he said.
