New centre would bring major events Central Queensland's way

MAJOR sporting events, conventions and musical acts could be coming our way with a new stadium and convention centre on the cards.

The push in on to build a $150 million facility in Rockhampton.

And Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll is one of the driving forces.

"The fact is that right now we are limited to who and what we can attract to the region because we don't have the facilities to host," she said.

Ms Carroll said the options of having events come to the beef capital would be limitless with this type of facility.

Ms Carroll said a major reason Capricorn Enterprise was formed was to focus on specific priority projects, like the recent CQUniversity TAFE merger and a potential stadium.

"We are the vessel in which to drive these projects, in partnership with our political, community and business leaders," Ms Carroll said.
