New group wants to make the most of bike tourism

MOTORCYCLISTS, tourism operators and South Burnett Regional Council have launched an initiative to bring more tourists to our towns and they need input from the wider community.

The group has launched a Bikers to the Burnett Facebook page to promote tours and routes visitors can take while riding in the area.

The page administrators seek local businesses to be included on the tours.

They also want feedback on some of the lesser-known attractions that would be of interest to visitors.

Committee member Mark Smith, a motorbike enthusiast, hopes to produce brochures that will detail the rides.

"We'd just like to hear from any business that would like to be involved,” Mr Smith said.

"We're looking for anyone who thinks their business is motorcycle-friendly and could add to motor bikers' experience.”

Businesses could include restaurants, wineries, craft stores, art galleries and club houses, he said.

"If somebody creates an idea in a motorcyclist's head about a ride, he will research that all week, he'll do his homework, he'll call ahead,” Mr Smith said.

"Very seldom do you just head off down the road and generally motorcyclists are creatures of habit and like to know where we're heading.”

The committee in charge includes Ulysses club members, South Burnett councillors and business owners and motorcyclists.

"This is purely a group of people who don't have a vested interest in retail or merchandise, we're just doing this to showcase theSouth Burnett and what it has to offer,” Mr Smith said.

"I'm just passionate about the South Burnett, I get to ride to lots of pretty places and there's nothing nicer than the South Burnett.

"We have a lot to offer.”
