Merry Christmas Rocky! Where does the sign go now?

MERRY Christmas Rocky.

It's the sign that has lit up Rockhampton's Fitzroy Bridge for Christmas over the past few years, but it might have to find a new home in 2015.

While we've only just entered the new year, Rockhampton Regional Council already has big plans for 2015 and an upgrade to the Fitzroy Bridge is at the top of the agenda.

Talks regarding new year-round decorative coloured flood lighting (which is able to change colour) to be installed on the bridge, are well under way, and with this in mind, RRC Mayor Margaret Strelow (pictured) said the Merry Christmas Rocky sign may need to be moved to a new location next festive season.

"I love the sign to pieces and so do a lot of other people," Cr Strelow said.

"It's probably a bit of a hidden secret though because at the time the Department of Main Roads wouldn't allow us to put it on the other side of the bridge due to driver distraction.

"I'm really keen to see it preserved if we have to move it."

Cr Strelow put the call out for new location suggestions to her followers on Facebook.

The Facebook post reached about 7500 residents and had 74 suggestions, 60 of which were positive about the lights.
