New processing plant good news for everyone
G CRUMPTON & Sons & Co Pty Ltd is in the process of building their new Seed Processing Plant.
If you drive out of Kingaroy on the Bunya Highway, on your left, you can't miss the sheds being constructed.
Darren Crumpton, one of the grandsons of the late Glyn Crumpton, is living at the plant's site residence and is most excited for what the new plant means for the family business.
"We wanted to have a dedicated site for us to process peanut seeds. This means that we will be able to segregate the peanuts used for Seed as soon as the farmers deliver their crops,” he said.
"At the moment, we have to wait until the end of the year to process seed at our existing Peanut Processing Plant in Crawford. When the new Plant is up and running, we will be able to process seeds and other farmer' stock simultaneously.”
The entire production process of peanuts will be more efficient, and this benefits everyone.
Building of the new seed processing plant is expected to be completed early next year.
"I'm hoping to have the plant ready for its first test run by April 2019, which will line up with the next peanut harvest season. However, it will probably be in 2020 before we can use the plant at its full capacity,” Mr Crumpton said.
When the seed processing plant is fully operational, Mr Crumpton said he expects the site will be a hub of activity.
"I'll probably have to put on a few more staff by this time, which will mean a few more job opportunities for the community too,” he said.
"The plant will have the latest processing technology and we'll need a few more hands to operate the machinery. It is definitely an exciting time.”
