New Red Ants coach for 2019
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Kingaroy Red Ants will be looking to go one better in 2019 and they will have a new coach on the sidelines to help make it happen.
Ryan Sullivan will step up as coach this year after working alongside former coach Darren Geiger who has now left town.
Sullivan is no stranger to the South Burnett Rugby League competition or to being called coach.
Since he was a junior Sullivan has played for the Red Ants and has coached several junior rugby league sides for the Kingaroy club.
"It is about building relationships with players and hopefully they perform for you,” he said.
"If you show them respect the you earn their respect and they will put in the hard yards.”
Winning the South Burnett Rugby League 1999 premiership with the Kingaroy Red Ants is one of Sullivan's favourite rugby league memories.
It will be Sullivan's first season coaching a senior side and he is excited to see what the team can achieve.
"I'm looking forward to getting in and having fun with the boys and enjoying it,” he said.
The Red Ants will be looking for redemption after failing to score in the 2018 grand final against the Nanango Stags.
"Their fitness needs up go to another level, that is probably something that Nanango had on us last year and the more you get to training the more you will improve,” Sullivan said.
The Red Ants returned to training in December with a lot of familiar faces returning to the side for 2019 and a number of under-18 players stepping up to the A-grade.
