New road to pave way to Kumbia

A NEW road will soon pave the way between Stuart River and Kumbia, with major roadworks to start at the site next week.

The South Burnett Regional Council will begin the work at Kumbia Road on Monday, between the Stuart River Bridge and the township of Kumbia.

The project will involve widening a 1.2km section of the one-land bitumen seal to provide a two-lane sealed surface beginning at the Stuart River Bridge.

Division six councillor Ros Heit said the construction complemented work that had been done in the area.

"It's a busy collector road and we've seen a lot of traffic go through there in recent times,” Cr Heit said.

"There is currently a blind spot and it's apparent that traffic had worn down that shoulder over time.

"I'm always really pleased to see roads being improved in my division.”

Construction will include clearing, drainage, signage, gravel pavement, bitumen sealing, line marking and earthworks and should be finished by December.

Traffic is still able to travel in the area during construction, but minor delays may be imminent.

Residents directly impacted by the works during the construction period, please contact the on-site supervisor.

For more information, phone the council on 4189 9100.
