New tower provides better mobile coverage
IT IS now easier to use your mobile phone in Maidenwell with a new Optus tower in town improving coverage.
The new tower on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road provides enhanced coverage to more than 200 residents 15 kilometres from the site.
The tower is funded through the Australian Government's Mobile Black Spot Program.
"Improved mobile coverage for Maidenwell hands locals more choices in how they live their lives and, ultimately, gives people a great opportunity to not only stay up to speed with education, business, news and contacting loved ones but also calling for help in an emergency,” Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.
Mr Littleproud said in small towns mobile phone coverage was considered more than a simple convenience.
"My goal is to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and better mobile phone coverage is certainly a big part of that,” he said .
Locals are now tapping into the Optus 4G network and streaming online information faster since the tower came online, one of 266 round two base stations built around Australia.
"I'm proud to be delivering better mobile coverage to Maranoa because better connections result in more convenience, better economic opportunities and improved social opportunities for people living in isolated areas,” Mr Littleproud said.
