Newman and Seeney drop defamation action against Alan Jones

Former premier Campbell Newman and former deputy premier Jeff Seeney have dropped their defamation cases against controversial shock jock Alan Jones.

Mr Newman, who it is understood recently returned from an overseas holiday, and Mr Seeney both filed notices of discontinuance in a Brisbane court on Monday.

Jones, who broadcasted a "special" Queensland election edition of his show on Fairfax Radio 4BC during the state campaign, had accused Mr Newman of "lying" to him over the Acland coal mining project on the Darling Downs.

During the campaign, Mr Newman accused Jones of launching a smear campaign against him and his government.

"In 2012 we saw a dishonest smear campaign from the Labor Party because they had no policies or plans for Queensland," he said.    Read more at the Brisbane Times
