NRL program developing young leaders
THE South Burnett's NRL game development officer has created a program which is turning our players and coaches into leaders both on and off the field.
Blake Mara created the Beyond the Nest program with the goal to develop the football skills and personal habits of our South Burnett players and coaches.
"This program is open to all players and coaches, it gives them a chance to develop themselves," he said.
"We want to give them the tools to test themselves in all aspects of life."
Mara said the Beyond the Nest development program was a welcome example for junior league players in the region.
"For a while now they haven't been exposed to that level of professionalism in the South Burnett," he said.
"We don't get to training late, we are organised."
"We are running a tight ship and the players then feed off that and the community does too."
The program hopes to develop better rugby league players and more importantly, better leaders.
"Being a leader is not being the best player, but making the people around you the best they can be," Mara said.
Over the years, the Beyond the Nest program will develop our future stars into exceptional leaders.
"If a kid comes into the program at 12, over the next two or three years he will become a standout in every aspect of his life," Mara said.
"So when those players get the opportunity to go outside the region, they are prepared."
