NSW records 9 new COVID cases

 

New South Wales has recorded nine new cases of coronavirus in the past the 24 hours, with one case under investigation about its origin.

The state's health department confirmed four of the new cases were from returned travellers, while the other five cases were locally acquired.

NSW health officer, Dr Christine Selvey said one case is under investigation about where transmission originated.

A known case had visited a KFC in the Sydney suburb of Concord on September 6, between 1pm and 1.20pm.

"Anyone who attended this venue at this time is considered a casual contact and must monitor for symptoms and get tested immediately if they develop," she said.

"After testing, they must remain in isolation until a negative test result is received."

Two of the new cases as of 8pm Saturday night, are household transmissions linked to the eastern suburbs Legion club cluster.

A further two cases are household contacts linked to the St Paul's Catholic College Greystones cluster.

Dr Selvey said all four cases have been in self-isolation while infectious.

NSW Health is currently treating 83 COVID-19 cases, six of which are in intensive care with three being placed on ventilators.

Within the state, 14,426 people have been tested for the virus.

Total confirmed COVID-19 cases in NSW is 3977 and 54 have died.
