NZ rugby player Guilford granted second chance after rehab
MY name is Zac Guilford and I was an alcoholic.
The former All Blacks winger, presently suspended for the latest in a string of behavioural issues, was yesterday rewarded for his successful stint in rehab by having his contract reinstated - with conditions - after a brutally honest appearance in front of New Zealand Rugby Union officials.
"I think my understanding was limited around alcoholism and the issue I had, that's the first step is admitting I was powerless over alcohol," he said.
Guilford will return to Crusaders training and be available for selection next week.
After earning a reprieve, the 24-year-old said, "'I know I have apologised for my behaviour before and that people's patience has grown thin. I am hugely grateful that I have been given this opportunity."
