Olympian appears in video for Allison Baden-Clay

OLYMPIAN Libby Trickett has joined politician Glenn Lazarus in a video appeal about domestic violence.

Using the hashtag #doingit4allison the various members of the campaign talk about a planned rally in Brisbane on Friday, December 18.

"We're coming together as a community to be counted, to make our voice heard and to deliver a message," they say.

"This Friday we are going to say that woman are not being protected enough, so join me and join other women, men and children, who will be saying stop to domestic violence."

Mr Lazarus said they would be calling on the Attorney General Yvette D'Ath to appeal the decision, referring to the successful appeal of Gerard Baden-Clay.

The group wants politicians to change laws "so that this does not happen again".

"I'll be doing it for Allison, for all women. Women deserve better," they say.

The video states the need to let political leaders know the social and legal structures designed to support and protect against domestic violence are not working.

Gerard Baden-Clay, who went to school in Toowoomba, was successful in his bid to have his conviction of murdering his wife Allison, downgraded to manslaughter.

Allison Baden-Clay was killed by husband Gerard in their Brisbane home, before he disposed of her body in a nearby creek. He was jailed for life last year.

Baden-Clay, who has always maintained his innocence, was convicted of murder in July last year after a five-week trial.

The decision was overturned on December 8.

It came as a shock to many, with residents in Toowoomba overwhelmingly condemning the ruling.

Baden-Clay will now be re-sentenced on the manslaughter conviction at a later point.

The Brisbane rally will be held at 12.15pm in King George Square.
