On-the-job learning helps students prepare for careers

MURGON State High School Year 10 students have been busy planning for their futures and making good impressions on potential employers as part of the school's work experience program.

Carmen Liebke, the traineeship and job placement officer at Murgon State High School, said the program was a great success this year.

"In June, 46 Year 10 students participated in the program, undertaking on-the-job work sampling fields that interested them as possible career paths," Ms Liebke said.

"Our students were placed with businesses and organisations large and small across the South Burnett and beyond.

"Feedback from these businesses and organisations has been overwhelmingly positive, commenting that our students were polite, well presented and willing to engage in the tasks given."

Ms Liebke said work experience was an invaluable opportunity for students.

"The program this year has been effective, with students having a better understanding of the workplace and their goals for their future careers, as well as a number of employment and training opportunities being presented to our students based on their performance and attitude during their work experience placement," she said.
