OFFICERS from Kingaroy CIB have arrested and charged one adult in relation to theft and vandalism of the dingo statue in Wondai.

They expect to charge another two people in the coming days.

It has been alleged the group of thieves stole the statue from outside the Wondai Art Galley late Thursday night.

South Burnett Councillor Ros Heit took to social media the following day, prompting a deluge of public outrage over the theft.

"I can't believe the cheek of them," Cr Heit said just after the theft.

"I think it's a real shame, this is a really close community."

The statue was found about 5.30am Monday by a concerned citizen, it is believed.

The person took the statue to the police station, but the station was unattended at the time so the statue was handed instead to the staff at Dan's Diner.

Cr Heit was relieved the statue had been returned to its rightful place.

"I'm delighted the lost dingo has been found," Cr Heit said.

"Thank you to the public who assisted in publicising the theft which contributed to his speedy recovery."
