OPINION: Why we've supported BaconFest from the start

AFTER almost a year of hype, speculation and build-up, Kingaroy's first ever BaconFest is finally here.

Here in the Times office, we were as excited as everyone else when we heard this amazing event was coming to town.

We splashed it all over our front page and it feels as though we have written something about at least once a week since it was announced in November, 2017.

We even helped the BaconFest team put together a beautiful commemorative magazine for the occasion.

So, we have been supporters of BaconFest since the very beginning.

There are several reasons for that.

First and foremost, we think it's a terrific idea, because bacon is amazing.

But also, we want to throw our support behind anything that helps our region thrive and grow.

Our pork industry, including the hard-working farmers, truck drivers and everyone who works at Swickers and our piggeries, deserves to be honoured.

This festival is a positive recognition of the industry that has helped build this region.

It's been so great to see the community getting excited and supporting this great event. Businesses, residents and community groups have come together to make this happen.

Now, it's finally here and we are proud to have been part of its journey.

The Times team will be out and about this weekend, enjoying and covering the festivities and sampling some porky treats.
