Oscar-winning Aussie film maker Andrew Lesnie dies

OSCAR-winning Australian filmmaker Andrew Lesnie has passed away.

The Sydney filmmaker, best known for his ground-breaking cinematography in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, reportedly died after suffering a heart attack yesterday, aged 59.

Lesnie most recently worked with first-time director Russell Crowe on his post-Gallipoli drama The Water Diviner. Crowe tweeted about his devastation over the passing of the "master of light".

His 40-year career also includes Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, King Kong, Babe and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
