OUR SAY: Great to see progress on Kingaroy Streetscape

IT IS great to see some progress being made on the Kingaroy CBD upgrade.

The town is in need of a good tidy up.

More trees, more shade and more communal space will make our main streets a nicer place to be.

I've lived here for almost five years and in that time I've found plenty of pockets of strange urban design.

For example, the haphazard car parking area behind Haly St is in need of work.

It's one of the most commonly used thoroughfares in town with people walking across the grassy space all day long.

Early in the morning one can see a handful of homeless people sleeping in their camper vans or in their cars.

After the sun is up and the town comes alive the students move in.

St Mary's students cross through on their way up the hill to school while Kingaroy State High students cross from the eastern residential blocks to their campus.

I've watched countless families push prams across this paddock on their way to the shops and at night the drunks from the pubs stagger across as well.

It is a natural route for people to take when walking into town and a de facto public space.

A little bit of work could turn this area into a really useful amenity.

Some pathways and lighting would also improve public safety at the same time.
