Outgoing Moreton boss calls for investment in Kingaroy coal

MORETON Resources' outgoing chief executive officer has called for a focus on South Burnett coal.

In a statement to the ASX, Alexander Jason Elks said advancing the South Burnett Coal Feasibility Study would be good news for the company and the region.

"This study will incorporate a significant level of engineering, environmental, technical and social impact studies that should demonstrate the practical ways in realisation of significant reserve of coal, that has potentional for a long term international off take agreement and therefore prosperity for the South Burnett region," he said.

He also said rehabilitating Kingaroy's UCG pilot site should be a priority, saying the project lead to Moreton's high level of credibility in managing environmental matters.

Mr Elks announced his resignation as CEO in July, but will stay on as the company's chairman.

"It has been a significant journey and I am comfortable that my key objectives will be finalised and fulfilled by the close of this calendar year," he said.

The Kingaroy coal mine has been the subject of extensive protests, most notably by Kingaroy Concerned Citizens' Group.
