Pageant puts focus on tourism
RIVERLINK played host to a modelling event aiming to promote Australia's tourism industry over the weekend.
Thirteen girls from across south-east Queensland strutted their stuff on a catwalk in Riverlink's East Mall as part of the Queensland leg of the Miss Tourism Australia pageant.
Dressed in clothes from Riverlink stores the girls were judged in three sections: sportswear, spring fashion and personality question and answer.
According to pageant organisers Miss Tourism Australia provides a platform to educate and promote tourism and cultural exchange among the contestants.
Saturday's Ipswich leg was won by Hayley Wilson and Samantha Day, with Hayley White coming in as the runner-up.
The two winners will go on to represent Queensland at the national Miss Tourism pageant against winners from across Australia.
From there the winner of the national competition will represent Australia on the world stage.
The competition was last year won by 22-year-old Sydney psychology student Monika Radulovic.
After representing Australia at the world competition in Kuala Lumpur last year Ms Radulovic is now an ambassador at international trade fairs.
