Parkrun regular looking good for 100

ANDREA Wecker is confident she will become the first Wondai Parkrun centenarian in early 2019.

Ms Wecker has completed 93 Park Runs at the Wondai event and barring any unforeseen complications, she will be the inaugural participant to celebrate 100 runs by early March next year.

The council employee became aware she was in line to be the first Wondai Park Runner to cross 100 finish lines just a few months ago.

"One of the run directors came up to me and let me know,” she said.

The Wondai resident has only missed eight Saturday morning runs since the free 5km fun run event commenced back in February 2017.

Ms Wecker was proud of her monumental achievement and for keeping the consistency for so long.

"Just the fact I get up early every Saturday morning and make the effort is great for me,” she said.

The council administration officer said the bonus of exercising in a group environment means she has expanded her social group and can focus on the real priorities.

"I have met some really lovely ladies through Wondai Park Run and we always have coffee together afterwards,” she said.

Ms Wecker and her friends walk in a group each week and this allows them the ability to assist with the Parkrun event's many responsibilities.

"We are always at the back of the pack so we usually volunteer to be the tail walkers,” she said.

"We make sure no one is left behind and assist with any runners who may have injuries or other issues.”

The inspirational fitness enthusiast encouraged all those who had thoughts of working on their health to simply just getting started on the journey.

"You don't have to be the fastest or the fittest, just come along and do a walk, run or jog,” she said.

"Everyone encourages each other.”

Ms Wecker is looking forward to ordering her 100th run t-shirt, as her current training shirt is well and truly reaching its expiry date.

"I've been wearing my 50th run t-shirt for a while now,” she joked.

Wondai Park Run commences at 7am every Saturday morning at the rail trail on Mackenzie Street, Wondai.

Park Run is a free event for all to enjoy however all participants must register before their first run.
