P.E.N Diaries: Life is an endurance sport
WELL, well, well, here we are again. Another week of my musings.
As I was chatting about life and love and all things grand I stumbled across an analogy that floored me: Imagine life as an endurance sport.
The training and planning that goes into the event before the event.
The sacrifice and the compromise you have to make in order to even compete.
The work and effort put forth for a chance of success.
All endurance sports are tough so why make them more difficult than they have to be?
As with any endurance sport you want to make sure you set yourself up to go the distance. Not only go the distance but go the distance well.
Would you swim the English Channel without being covered in that awful slimy stuff?
Would you run a marathon in a pair of flip flops?
Would you climb Everest without whatever it is they need to not die half way to the summit?
Well if you said yes to any of those, you are setting yourself up for a very arduous journey. My guess is you said no... so why set yourself up any differently for your life and your goals?
If it’s a relationship, it’s a marathon. If it’s weight loss, it’s a marathon.
If it’s financial freedom, guess what, it’s a flipping marathon. We are all running our own marathon.
It can feel long and painful and can seem never ending but it’s made so much more difficult if you insist on wearing your self thin throughout the race. How you run this race is your own choice so are you running your marathon in flip flops or a pair of Brooks Adrenalines?
