Kingaroy's Russell Schloss put his 30 years of racing experience to work to take out the quickest local trophy and his class in his Mazda MX5.

It is the second time Schloss, a national circuit racing driver, has competed at the Wondai sprints.

"It is something a bit different and is a bit more relaxed than the circuit racing,” he said.

"It is a challenge and is something a bit different.”

Schloss and his car know how to win races.

"In its class in circuit racing it was the fastest car in the country so it was a good car,” he said.

"The car was built in 2001 and I got the car in 2005 and since then I have got it to what it is now.”

Schloss travels all over the country to race and it was the opposite on the weekend with drivers travelling to the South Burnett to compete.

"This is the only time that we don't have to travel three hours to go somewhere,” he said.

Organiser of the event Kevin Krosch said the feedback has been very positive.

"The drivers are very happy with the outcome of the weekend,” he said.

On Sunday the show and shine ran alongside the racing attracting more people then previous years.

"We are exceptionally happy with the outcome,” Krosch said.

The success of event is down to the work of the volunteers with 900 hours of work put in before racing started.

"You can't buy that and it is the most crucial part.”
