Plans for new rail trail revealed

THE South Burnett rail trail could be set to expand, with a proposed 45km stretch from Murgon to Proston.

In a presentation at this morning's South Burnett Unpacked meeting, South Burnett Mountain Bike Club president, Jason Wyeth said the proposal was a long term one but would be a welcome addition.

"It will take a lot of hard work but it'll be a huge bonus for the area,” Mr Wyeth said.

Wondai Diggers Club hosted the fourth South Burnett Unpacked event on Wednesday, August 8 with a room of interested home owners, event volunteers and councillors.

The event focused on topics of interest regarding the rail trail including caravan users, running festivals and council updates.

One interested event attendee said the proposed rail trail expansion would be great for Proston,

"I know some Proston business owners who would be very happy to hear this news,” he said.

Mr Wyeth pointed to the success of the existing trail.

"The Wondai rail trail had close to 2000 individual users in July,” he said.
