Police pause cricket match to make arrest

OFF-duty police officers had to make an arrest at the One Mile Ovals in Gympie on Saturday afternoon when they were trying to have a game of cricket.

Gympie officer-in-charge Snr Sgt Graeme Reeves said the officers were having a game of cricket just before 4pm when they noticed a disturbance taking place between a man and woman.

After a short time they attempted to arrest the man but he allegedly grabbed the window of a toilet block and refused to let go.

The man then allegedly headbutted the side of the toilet block, causing damage to the fibro cement panels.

He was charged with disorderly behaviour and wilful damage and will face court at a later date.
