Political expert: Turnbull must have the numbers
UNIVERSITY of the Sunshine Coast political lecturer Bronwyn Stevens says she believes Malcolm Turnbull will prove a more popular leader with the voting public, but was surprised at the timing of the leadership challenge.
She said she'd expected the former Communications Minister to wait until the Canning by-election results before taking a tilt at the leadership, with a leadership ballot to be held later tonight.
"I'd predicted it (leadership spill) wouldn't be before the Canning by-election but I was proven wrong again by Malcolm Turnbull," Ms Stevens said.
"He must have the numbers.
"I can't understand why he didn't wait (until post-Canning result)."
