YOUR LETTERS: Politicians get perks, mums get disdain

HOW dare this out-of-touch, hypocritical government accuse new mothers of fraud and double dipping in legitimately taking advantage of paid parental leave entitlements to spend a few precious months with their new babies.

When in Canberra, Treasurer Hockey stays at his wife's house and claims a tax-free $270 per night travel allowance.

Is that double dipping, Joe?

Over four years until August last year, Mr Hockey had claimed $108,000 for 368 nights. Bet that helped with the mortgage, hey, Joe?

This generous perk is available to all federal politicians who do not have to show proof where they stayed. While it is far from ideal, it is legitimate, and they are not accused of fraud or scamming.

We will know that this government is serious about reform when it addresses the abundant entitlements of politicians.
