Positive outlook in 2016 for Toowoomba businesses

TOOWOOMBA Chamber of Commerce president Joy Mingay predicts 2016 will be a positive year for businesses with more job creation and opportunities.

"Big projects are going ahead like the Second Range Crossing and Grand Central redevelopment," she said.

"I think the fact that Wellcamp announced additional flights is great for tourism and business. More than that it's a vote of confidence and leap of faith.

"(In 2016) I'd like to see more international flights too."

Ms Mingay said 2015 had its ups and downs.

"It really was a tough first half with redundancies and a downturn in the resources sector, but we bounced back in the second half of the year," she said.

"And that's what Toowoomba does - we're a city that bounces back."

Ms Mingay's highlights included witnessing the first international flight land at Wellcamp airport, construction starting on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and a $1 million grant for the Vanguard Laundry Project.

She also welcomed the number of new businesses that opened, including cafes, bars and retail outlets.

"I hope for more big opportunities in 2016 and we can find opportunities for businesses to jump on the bandwagon," she said.
