THE legacy of Toowoomba man Roger Guard who was killed in the MH17 Malaysia Airlines disaster could be enshrined in Toowoomba forever.

Mr Guard and his wife Jill were among the 298 passengers and crew who perished when a Boeing 777 was shot down near the Ukraine-Russia border.

Now Toowoomba Regional Council is set to honour Mr Guard's memory by renaming a laneway in Middle Ridge to Roger Guard Lane.

His son Paul Guard said the family had been asked about and were supportive of the idea.

"Dad liked running around the laneways and used to design his runs around them," he said.

"He often used that one going into the back of Middle Ridge Park.

"I think would have been very honoured by the gesture.

"He contributed a lot to the community over many years as head of pathology.

"And he had a long association with a lot of organisations in Toowoomba."

Should council name the laneway after Roger Guard?

This poll ended on 14 May 2015.

Current Results

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

The proposal came from Toowoomba Road Runners of which Roger Guard was a past-president.

The group's secretary Greg Vincent said it would be a fitting tribute to Mr Guard given the upcoming anniversary of the tragedy

Mr Guard who lived at Middle Ridge ran along the currently unnamed laneway daily.

The proposal will be put before council today.
