A GROUP of dog owners have hounded council over recent changes made to off-leash dog areas in a popular Toowoomba park.

The protesters marched on City Hall, demanding to be heard and handing over a petition calling on Toowoomba Regional Council to reconsider its decision on the issue.

New rules restrict the walking of dogs in certain areas of Alex Horn Park in Mt Lofty.

Dogs are only be allowed to walk in areas to the right of a meandering path.

Complaints by nearby residents are believed to have led to the changes, with their animals being disturbed by the roaming dogs.

Concerned citizens have formed a group called the Parkies of Horn Park which is calling for council to make the majority of Alex Horn Park an off-leash dog area.

Spokesman John Campbell said it was a sorry 'tale' and that the group was melon 'collie' over the issue.

He expressed disappointment over council's handling of the issue.

He said it could take council up to a year to overturn its decision.

Are there enough off-leash parks in Toowoomba?
