Q Cup country clash set for South Burnett
THIS weekend two Q Cup teams will travel to Nanango to battle it out on the field as part of the annual Country Week round.
On Sunday, July 21 competition board leaders Sunshine Coast Falcons are up against the North Devils who are sitting in 5th place on the ladder board.
Kicking off at 1.10pm at the Nanango Showgrounds, it will be one of the seven games played in regional towns around the state.
Sunshine Coast Falcons CEO Chris Flannery said he is looking forward to coming out for some 'bush hospitality.'
"It's fantastic to take these games out to regional towns and give supporters the opportunity to get to a game,” said Flannery.
"Hopefully we are going to get a big crowd on the day and gain a few new supporters.”
"For us it's important for players and staff to see regional country areas and understand what bush footy is all about.”
"We've had a really good season so far but we've expecting a tough game this weekend against the North Devils.”
Sitting at the top of the table, the Sunshine Coast Falcons have only lost one game this season, with just six more games left to play for the year.
"Obviously you don't set out from the start of the season thinking you want to get the minor premiership, but we are heading in the right direction.”
"However we do have a few tough matches coming up, such as the Burleigh Bears and Wynnum Manly Seagulls, who are right on our tails,” he said.
North Devils CEO Troy Rovelli, who joined the club in February earlier this year, said it will be business as usual in regards to the preparations for the Country Round this weekend.
"We're currently sitting in 5th spot but we know we have a challenge ahead of us this weekend,” Rovelli said.
"We are also excited to be bringing home one of the local Nanango boys, Luke Pollock, who now plays for us.”
"(The country round) is a great initiative by the QRL, backed by the State Government, that they have run for a number of years.”
"We love getting out to visit country towns and take the high standard of football out to regional places,” he said.
Round 18 Country Week will take place across this state this weekend July 20-21 in Nanango as well as Illfracombe, Pittsworth, Thursday Island, Cloncurry and Ingham.
