Queenslanders Paul and Blair go down fighting on MKR
MY Kitchen Rules "villains" Kelly and Chloe have advanced to the grand final after narrowly beating Queensland nice guys Paul and Blair.
The Gold Coast surfer dads lost to the Perth "know it alls" by just one point tonight in a fiercely fought semi-final showdown.
Kelly and Chloe brought out their big guns, presenting a nearly flawless fine dining menu full of indulgent seafood.
While both teams were neck and neck after presenting their entrees to the judging panel, Paul and Blair's risky main course had the expert panel divided.
Judges Manu Feildel and Liz Egan loved their pairing of kangaroo with blueberries and chocolate ganache, but Pete Evans and Guy Grossi would have preferred the ganache not to be on the plate.
"I loved the ambition of this dish, but I think the chocolate perhaps should have been incorporated in another manner," Grossi said.
In contrast, Grossi called Kelly and Chloe's Pesce Acqua Pazza an "awesome creation".
The dish even impressed tough judge Colin Fassnidge.
"Your fish was cooked on the bone perfectly," he said.
"The broth was bursting with flavour. This is a stunning dish and I would happily sell it in my restaurant."
While Paul and Blair redeemed themselves with their dessert, it wasn't enough to beat Kelly and Chloe at the top of their game.
"It was really hard getting those dishes ready for the semi -finals," Blair told APN.
"On the one hand we're trying to put the best dishes forward, but we were also thinking if we win this one we don't want to use all our big guns in the semi-final. It was a tough decision for us and in hindsight we might have done something else."
Tomorrow night Greek twins Helena and Vikki, who have reportedly already signed a cook book deal, will face off against Adelaide mums Bree and Jessica for the second grand final berth.
The My Kitchen Rules grand final airs on Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
