Race day fundraiser for LBP Community Hospital
THE Bunya Mountains are the place to be this weekend if you want to get close to the Stradbroke Cup.
The Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital Foundation will host a fundraiser atop the mountain to gather money for much-needed medical equipment
Foundation president Wayne Kratzmann promises a good day of racing.
"It's just the biggest race day in Brisbane,” he said.
"Melbourne has the Melbourne Cup, Sydney has the Gold Slipper and Brisbane has the Stradbroke Cup.
"It doesn't matter whether we raise $1000 or $5000, every little bit helps.”
Mr Kratzmann said the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital was well on its way to securing the range of specialists who left when it first closed its doors.
But for every specialist back at the centre more equipment is needed.
"The equipment in the medical world has to be the best and it doesn't have a long life so we are always having to upgrade and replace it,” he said.
Recently the foundation secured the donation of a car from Jackie Trace at Bill Hull Car Centre to be used by nurses doing home visits and wound treatment.
Mr Kratzmann said the gift was well appreciated.
"It was a 10-second call, Jackie said we could have whatever we needed. I was blown away,” he said.
The fundraiser will be held at the The Bunyas.
Along with broadcasting the races from the hotel's big screen television there will be live music, complimentary champagne on arrival, tapas and finger food, prizes for the best- dressed man, woman and couple and raffles.
Punters can also have a crack at a bunya nut- throwing competition.
A free bus will depart the Kingaroy hotel and return racegoers home.
