Rapper accidentally drops Banksy's real name in interview

THE shine might just have been taken off bling-toothed British rapper Goldie after he appeared to have revealed the identity of mysterious artist Banksy.

Music's hardman was so deep in discussion about the iconic Bristol street creative during a recent podcast he referred to him as Robert, The Sun reports - yet for the past 20 years, Banksy has taken care to remain anonymous.

Fans were quick to deduce Goldie was referring to Robert Del Naja - of hit group Massive Attack - as he said during the podcast Distraction Pieces: "Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write 'Banksy' on it and we're sorted.

"We can sell it now.

"No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over."

Banksy has left his street art all over the world but mainly in the UK, and his latest work is an Brexit-inspired piece that has been erected in Dover.

The bold design follows a controversial 'Walled off' hotel that Banksy opened in Bethlehem earlier this year.

One listener was quick to quiz: "Is it me or did Goldie just out Banksy?"

Another was more sceptical, and posted on Twitter: "Marketing/publicity stunt for album sales possibly?"

After his apparent huge blooper, Goldie switched the subject to more safe ground and focused on jazz music.

Goldie's past reputation as a street artist - who previously locked horns with the Massive Attack performer in a street art battle in the 1980s, could well add more fuel to the intense speculation.

Rumours have long swirled about the true identity of the street artist Banksy.

The first stab at his identity classed Banksy as Robin Gunningham, a former public schoolboy from Bristol.

The artist's agent refused to confirm or deny that it was him.
