Ready to make Blackbutt proud

TOBY Neilen will be flying the flag for the South Burnett when he represents the Wide Bay in softball at the Queensland school sport championships.

As the captain of Blackbutt State School Toby is looking forward to making his school proud.

"I am looking forward to making new friends and learning new skills," he said.

Toby hadn't heard of softball a few years ago but started playing when his friends got involved.

He is the first student from Blackbutt State School to represent Wide Bay for softball and has been travelling to Maryborough to train with his team mates.

Toby's mum, Jenniel, has attended every game and training session and said Toby's ability to run and throw is his greatest asset on the field.

"He has a strong throwing arm and I think that is why he was selected," she said.

Toby will take the field with Wide Bay in Ipswich this weekend where players will be selected to represent Queensland in Canberra in November.
