Ready to step up for finals

BASKETBALL: Teams are gearing up for the Kingaroy Basketball Association season finals next Tuesday.

The semi-finals were hotly contested on Tuesday night, with games decided in the final minutes.

In the under-12s, the Pacers defeated the Superstars by one point to secure their place in the grand final.

The Pacers will take on the Magic, who defeated the Knights to maintain their undefeated record this season.

While the Magic will head into the final as favourites having finished the season at the top, the Pacers have improved throughout the season and can't be ruled out.

In the under-15s, the Grizzlies defeated the Knicks while the Blazers upset the Rockets to come out on top.

The Grizzlies will go into next week as final favourites but it is expected to be a tight contest against the Blazers.

Kingaroy Basketball Association president Sandy Sawtell said it was great to see the kids giving their all for their teams on the court.

"I think the games are going to be really close,” she said.

This is the first season of the under-15 competition and Sawtell said it had created an opportunity for more kids to play.

"It's been good to have players closer in age playing together and it gives a better pathway for kids going up the age groups,” she said.

In the under-20s comp, the Rockets will play the Tropics at 7pm next week, with season honours on the line.
