Record season for touch football

TOUCH football has become one of the more popular sports in the South Burnett with a record number of juniors this season.

Kingaroy Touch Football Club treasurer, Jenny Whyte said they had 120 juniors keeping fit and having fun during this year's season.

"The kids are enjoying it and telling their friends and then their friends come along,” she said.

The season came to a close on Monday night for both juniors and seniors with teams competing for the prestigious grand final honours.

Kingaroy Red Ants fields were filled with family, friends and supporters enjoying the high level of touch football skills.

Like most sporting clubs, the successful competition was in large part thanks to the hard working and dedicated volunteer committee.

"We have parents and teenagers who are coaching our juniors,” Mrs Whyte said.

"It's good to see the young kids wanting to get involved.”

Kingaroy Touch Football club will hold their annual AGM next Tuesday, November 11 from 7.30pm and Ms Whyte was looking forward to putting her hand up for president.

"I want to see more kids, they'll get the love for touch and they're just going to keep going,” she said.

"Even the adults, it doesn't matter how good you are you will have fun.”

The 2019 Kingaroy touch football competition kicks off early next year.

"First Monday back at school next year is sign-on day,” Mrs Whyte said.

In last night's grand finals, Integral Mixed won in a close encounter with IGA Bears 7-6, Gumps defeated Integral Fitness 10-5, Having a Go were too good for Tarong Touchdowns winning 12-7 and Touch N Go had enough in the tank to overcome Wild Hogs 9-4.
